Re: Live-streaming from webcam

I now have the streaming running and it works fine. The actual camera aspect is retained when looking at it on a phone, but what doesn't remain in proportion is the iframe box, which goes from landscape to portrait, with the space above and below the video filled black. Would this be anything to do with the dimensions I've entered – 800px x 450px, Min/Max heights both 80% ?

Hi, Just doing the same for a client. I've come some way to do a simple copy of the Freeway version. The point now is the page where I had several tables with links in each table cell to pdf and excel files. I guess these can be substituted with simple texts with links and using tab to separate texts. But is there a better way? See screen dump below:

Replying to myself. Control/Return works if the container is set to the width of the whole text but in a large container where the whole of the text can fit on one line then there is no apparent carriage return so my suggestion has limited value. Sorry. We'll have to wait for the implementation.

Peter.

Hi Grantsymon and Jeremy,

Thank you for your help and advices. I knew there would be an easy way. It's sometimes easier to ask than wade through the many settings.

Good morning to you, from a warm sofa in Normandy... (will we really hit 19°c this weekend?)

You're in luck.  Built-in to Mac apps, using the iWork like features as XWay does, is an incredibly handy, app specific, Time Machine.

If you go to the File Menu and choose 'Revert To', you will be able to choose from any of your previously saved versions.  So when working, if you are at a stage that you think you may want to revert to later on, just hit Cmd-S and carry on working.  If you note the time, then you will easily be able to revert to that version at a later stage... or if you prefer, keep your current version + the older one.

Here's a support doc, for how it works in Pages:

Steve,

I'm working through rebuilding my Freeway Website for my business in Xway. Knowing my luck, the week I put the finishing touches to the site and publish it to the WWW, the ability to upload the Freeway sites to Xway will be launched.

When quitting Xway there doesn't appear to be any prompts to save or discard work.

Good morning from a dismal, flooded, back garden in the UK.

This may have been broached before but I am surprised that, when quitting the Xway programme either by accidentally clicking on the red spot top left or just clicking quit, that any changes to the files being worked on is automatically saved and the history of changes lost.

There are times when what one is trying to achieve is not delivering a successful conclusion.  Then, quitting the programme with the option of not saving changes is preferable.  Is there an option to switch this on or has it been deemed unnecessary, for what ever reason, to implement this?

I am enjoying working through the intricacies of Xway, compared to other Website Design Programmes, to eventually get to the finished item.  Lockdown over here in the UK (not allowed to give Driving Tuition at present) is offering a superb opportunity to get stuck in and work for hours at a time on development but with a slight lapse of concentration I would like the reminder on screen to let me know that by continuing will mean all changes will be lost or vice versa, automatically saved.

Regards,
Peter A-B.

Brilliant. Thanks.  J

Hi John,

There is a section in the User Guide that describes how to do this:

1. Click on Xway User Guide in Xway's Help menu
2. Look at the section called "Video aspect ratio" in the "Iframes" chapter.

Re: Trying to get an iframe to resize for tablet/cellphone

Thanks for the reply. I am using the embed codes from both platforms. The issue is a formatting one; Without setting dimensions, the boxes appear quite small, too small for the webpage if viewed on a computer, or even a tablet. If I set the dimensions, or even the minimum dimensions, the iframe doesn't resize for a cellphone, and runs off the screen. It is possible to pinch to resize on the cellphone, but this causes it's own problems with the windows.

I was hoping for a setting or way fo managing embedded media in Xway that would allow for better resizing on the small screen.

If you're using Xway's iframe object you can simply set the width and height of the item to whatever you like, including percentage values. If you're adding entire iframe code lumps (such as what Vimeo gives you) I suggest copying the URL itself from there and using that in an Xway-made iframe.

Trying to get an iframe to resize for tablet/cellphone

john@...

I have embedded 2 iframes in my site, one a Soundcloud page and the other a Vimeo page. Inserting an iFrame in a box  in Xway works beautifully, except that I can't seem to configure the windows in such a way that they will resize for smaller screens. Any suggestions?

Thanks. J

Re: Text over inserted images

Tim Plumb

If you add Peter's suggestion of typing control-return to get a visual 'line break' in the design view as step 3 in Keith's list then you'll get what I think you are after.

A line of text[your manually inserted <br/>][control-return]
Another line of text

Thanks Keith.  Still on the learning curve.  I’ll stick a post-it on my screen to remind me it’s Beta Mode!!!

Appreciate the help.

Peter.

Hi Peter – Xway doesn't currently support line breaks; it only generates full paragraph breaks. This will come of course, but we're still in beta world. You can get what you want relatively simply, albeit with a bit of clutter: click in your text where you want the line break, and instead of typing Return, choose Insert > Markup. In the sheet that drops down, do these two things:

  • Type "<br />" (without the quotes)
  • Click the 'Inline' checkbox (so Xway knows this snippet of markup code is to be used inline within a run of text)

The problem you will have now is that the line in your Xway editing view WON'T be broken at all while the generated code as shown in Xway's preview or in a browser WILL have the desired line break. Not ideal, but keep reminding yourself that this is a temporary situation. :)

Morning Jeremy,

Further to this problem with starting a new line instead of a new paragraph when return is pressed. instead of pressing shift/return I tried control/return and it works.  I can’t understand why I didn’t try these other combinations before.

I hope this helps the other guy that wrote in with this problem.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

I think that a better solution would be to use a background image on an ordinary (text) box. You can choose a background image from the Background section of the Box Inspector.

Adding a markup item with <br> (as mentioned in the other thread) should work for line breaks.
