Re: Text over inserted images

Morning Jeremy,

Further to this problem with starting a new line instead of a new paragraph when return is pressed. instead of pressing shift/return I tried control/return and it works.  I can’t understand why I didn’t try these other combinations before.

I hope this helps the other guy that wrote in with this problem.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

I think that a better solution would be to use a background image on an ordinary (text) box. You can choose a background image from the Background section of the Box Inspector.

Adding a markup item with <br> (as mentioned in the other thread) should work for line breaks.

Hey James,

Thank you for the ultra fast reply. Yes it was the line break I wanted not the new paragraph.

The url fir some reason does not transfer the .co.uk for some reason so if you try again with this it should work. https://W121SoM.co.uk

I’ll see if your fix for adding text on top of an image works. Take care.

Peter

Also, you had a query regarding starting a new line straight under the one above, similar to Shift/Return , this doesn’t work with Xway. You suggested, iirc, to print out the text in a text editor then cut and paste.  I tried this but once pasted there is still a space between the two lines.
Do you mean adding a line-break which doesn't start a new paragraph?

Hi Peter,

Xway doesn't yet have float-left and float-right boxes, but they wouldn't help with placing text over an image.

Your link doesn't work for me, but one way to place text over an image would be to put the image inside a container box (div) and add a second box with text within the container. Then set the second (text) box to have absolute position.

Generally, you need to be careful when using absolute position: it's not a good idea to use absolute positioning as your primary way of positioning items, but I think it should work fine in this case.

Using a container for the image (and text box) will prevent the image from being used inline with text. It will need to stand on a separate line.

Hey Jame’s,

Two questions

How do you print over an image?  You once told me Xway doesn’t have floating boxes.

Also, you had a query regarding starting a new line straight under the one above, similar to Shift/Return , this doesn’t work with Xway. You suggested, iirc, to print out the text in a text editor then cut and paste.  I tried this but once pasted there is still a space between the two lines.

Below is the url I designed in Freeway which I’m trying to replicate in Xway  you see my problem with the Header.

Re: Fonts not working

Try Cinzel from Google. It's a lot like Trajan.

Re: Fonts not working

I don't have Antiqua on my computer either. I don't think there are many fonts you can rely on people having, apart from Helvetica (or Arial) and Times (or Times New Roman).

It might be worth checking out web fonts, which are easy to use within Xway. Google have a page of free web fonts:

https://fonts.google.com

Thanks Jeremy. The choice of browser didn’t seem to make a difference. However I did find a good substitute, Antiqua, which seemed to work and I will check it across different computers owned by different individuals.

Re: Fonts not working

Hi John,

If it's installed on your computer, I don't know why it's not working in your browser. Are you using Safari or a different browser?

However, you also need to consider that most people probably won't have this font installed (I don't have it) so it won't work for them either. If you want to use a particular font, and it's not one that most people are likely to have (Times/Times New Roman or Helvetica/Arial), it's better to use a "web font" that can be downloaded by the browser. Even in this case, it's a good idea to specify a fallback font (some people have web fonts turned off in their browser).

Fonts not working

I have been trying to use a particular font, Trajan Pro, the is installed on my computer. I shows up in the page view, and in the page preview mode, but using web preview (opt-com-B) causes a default font to be substituted, in this case Times.  I have tried every way I can to insert this font in to the font list in Xway, and have also re-installed the font using the Font Book app.

Other fonts work perfectly when added - Optima, for example.  Is there something that I need to know about fonts such as Trajan that is not in the Users Guide?

Re: Live-streaming from webcam

ThatKeith

You'll have some code to insert, yes. It shouldn't be a problem, most likely it's going to be an iframe in your Xway page. Failing that, some code pasted into a markup item.

Live-streaming from webcam

Geoff Mullett

Is this possible within an Xway web page? Sometime in March I hope to add live video streams from two webcams. I don't know the details yet, but I'm assuming there will be a piece of code that I'll have to insert somewhere.
Thanks
Geoff

Re: hamburger menu

ThatKeith

Something on doing this in CSS would be marvellous, if it doesn't take too much time to put together for us!
(My current design thinking is for using a hamburger menu in all devices, not only mobile/small screens. It's not great for all occasions but it's perfect for my current project.)
