Compatibility with next OS

(Carefully worded, the question is only about the assumption, not anything liable to NDA.) Sorry for asking, anxiety attack. Is it a fair assumption that transition of the Beta to the new MacOS 11.0 / 10.16 is in hand and we may expect a smooth transfer on update in the autumn?

Thanks again Jeremy.

You don't need it... if you're using Xway
Sounds like you've just about written Xway's slogan too.

For any Property, e.g. flex-flow, you can add their Values as space delimited items.  No need to describe them in any other way?
That's right. Properties often have a single value, but you can add several values. The most important property here is Name: display, Value: flex.

What you originally added were complete CSS styles, including comments and various properties. You might type this if you were coding by hand, but you don't need it if you're using Xway.

Thanks Jeremy!

It’s much simpler than that!
This is in fact, my favourite description of coding of any sort.

I'm guessing that this means that you've already built a fair bit of this process into XWay?

Just so that I understand...

Name: flex-flow
Value: row wrap

Re: Border radius around a box

Adding the border did it…Thanks!

Re: Border radius around a box

Border radius works with any type of box, but you need to add a background or border to the box to see it.

If you want to prevent text from appearing outside the border, you could add some padding.

Border radius around a box

Seth Rosenblum

Is it possible to create a border radius around a box? I can create one around a graphic using an extended property: border-radius along with the size but that doesnt work on a box with text in it. Many thanks!

Xway b2.2 is here

Jeremy Hughes

We've just released Xway b2.2.

This contains a single bug fix:

  • Fixed a crash that could happen when a link is added to a span containing all the text in a paragraph
You can download b2.2 from our website (click on "Download the Xway beta now" on the Xway page).

Re: Boxes inside boxes (FW - Float Left)

Hi Grant,

It’s much simpler than that!

For the container item, delete everything you have added in Extended Properties, then click on the plus button in Extended Properties and enter:

Name: display
Value: flex

Then create a second property:

Name: flex-flow
Value: row wrap

For the child items, delete everything you have added in Extended Properties. If you want to set a background colour or size, you can do this in the normal way (without using Extended Properties). You might want to use percentage widths (e.g. 25%) rather than pixel widths.

There’s more information on this in the manual
I already looked online at Softpress.com for a manual... but of course, there is a menu called 'Help'. Duhhh.

May I add, that with this initial brief foray into Xway, I think you are building a really really excellent app. I already like the Mac layout, with panels each side, as in Pages, but aside from that, I feel that I'm looking at an app, that has been really well worked out, with a lot of careful thought and a really nice UI, e.g., the button bars at the top are so incredibly simple compared to FW. I find myself just automatically going full-screen, which of course, works really well with the Xway help app Tiled narrow down one side. I think it is going to be easier to use than Freeway, by an order of magnitude. 😎

Yet? I'd like to pause for a moment to say just this: wow.
I am SO looking forward to this being supported directly! :-O

I've made something a bit similar to this in Xway: the bar at the top of the page is fixed in position while everything else scrolls. Beneath it in this case, although that's just how I designed it. https://www.panoramaphotographer.com

Re: What is the latest re migrating from FreewayPro (7.1.4) to Xway please?

Jeremy Hughes

My guess would be 2021 or 2022.

Some of the things we need to do first include Master Pages, Tables, Lists, Forms, and Exhibeo import.

What I'd recommend, personally, is to start using Xway for new projects and major redesigns (if/when possible), but continue using Freeway for minor updates to existing websites.

Exhibeo import will be in Xway b3. We're working on it now.

Hello Jeremy,
Thanks for this, that’s very helpful
Do you have any idea when you are hoping that Xw might read Fw documents, just ballpark, this year, 2021, 2022…?

Best wishes,
Torbjörn

Hi Torbjörn,

Xway doesn't read Freeway documents yet. That's something we plan to do, but we're working on core functionality that needs to be in place first.

It's possible to recreate a Freeway site by hand if you copy/paste text and reimport images (essentially the same method that you would use to recreate a non-Freeway site within Freeway).

If you do this, it's a good idea to create a page layout that displays flexibly on different devices, rather than recreate an inflexible Freeway layout. It's possible to create a flexible layout in Freeway, but it's much easier to do this in Xway.

Re: Boxes inside boxes (FW - Float Left)

Steve

Hi Grant,

That css-tricks guide was invaluable when I rebuilt the Cotswold Engineering Supplies site a few years ago in Freeway. It meant I could build a responsive site easily (relatively speaking) as it required a lot of extra styles added via CSS: ID - Class FW-7 Action.
Once you get your head around it, it allows you great control of how your site looks, smoothing out some rough edges that sometimes happens when you have more than one box in a row with different heights.

I'm sure you'll find it useful.

I'll be delving into Xway soon to start preparations for the transfer of that site to the new kid on the block!

Cheers, Steve.

Re: XWay wont save document?

Jeremy Hughes

That's pretty drastic - the document.plist file contains all the data that is in your document (apart from the Resources and Site folders).

But Xway will have recreated this when you saved, so hopefully you're OK.

If anything like this happens again, I'd suggest duplicating the document (in the Finder) and sending us a copy if it's a reproducible problem.
