Re: Welcome to Fretspace Talk

Hi Jeremy,
I just discovered and bought and am loving Fretspace so far! Is there any chance you'll be adding File > Export as image (png or jpg) at any point? Instead of just export as pdf. Or is there a reason you didn't include this? I have a workaround with Automator but it would be a great feature to have 'baked in' to the app itself. Thanks in advance. Respectfully, Simon

Hi Simon,
Thanks for your feedback! PNG/JPEG export is definitely something that I'd like to add at some point. Jeremy

Spread out scale over 10 frets
jannone@...
Hi Jeremy,
Brilliant, brilliant project! Thank you so much for making this. I just switched to 4ths tuning, and am re-learning all my scales etc... So, what I'm trying to do is spread the scales out over 10 frets with the root in the middle of the E string. This lets me see the shapes on the neck in a way that's pretty useful for me. So, here's me trying this on one of my fave scales, the C Lydian Dominant: http://www.giphy.com/gifs/XxlkLwM0bUKtfke06E Maybe I'm doing something wrong or missing a setting, but it re-spells the whole thing as an arpeggio each time I add a note, and I can't switch it back to C Lydian Dom. So I guess my Q is: is there a way to freeze the spelling so that when I add dots it doesn't try to interpret, and every D is just 2, E is 3, etc...? Thanks! John http://jann.one/

Re: Spread out scale over 10 frets
Hi John,
What is happening is that when you add a note that already exists (on another string) Fretspace interprets the shape as an arpeggio rather than a scale (because of the duplicated note). You can prevent this happening by entering the name manually. If you're starting out with an existing C Lydian Dominant shape: 1. Select the box name and copy it (Command-C) 2. Add a note (Fretspace will change the name at this point) 3. Select the box name and paste back the name you copied After you have done this, Fretspace will no longer change the name. If you want to revert back to having the name be automatically chosen (when you have finished adding/removing notes) you can select the name a second time and delete it. You might also find that selecting C Lydian Dominant in the scale finder and choosing "Diagonal" in the "Shape" popup gets you close to what you are looking for. Jeremy

Re: Spread out scale over 10 frets
PS The nice thing about "diagonal" shapes is that they repeat the same finger/note pattern across string pairs - so if you learn the pattern for one pair of strings, you can repeat it on the next two pairs.

We have just released Fretspace 1.3.1. This fixes issues that affected Fretspace in Dark Mode: chart and box titles are drawn in black rather than white, and the appearance of toolbar icons has been improved. This is a free update. If you bought Fretspace from the App Store, you can update from the App Store application. If you bought from us, you can download the latest version by clicking on the Try button on the Fretspace page of our website.

Migrating to Discourse
Simon Manning
Hi All,
You might see this multiple times if you subscribe to multiple lists but they all say the same, you can safely ignore the duplicates.
Next week we will be migrating our community mailing lists into Discourse. That is all the lists on FreewayTalk and Groups io.
You can find more information about this here:
https://discourse.softpress.com/t/information-for-existing-freewaytalk-groups-io-users/24891
At this time posting is disabled in the imported categories to avoid splitting discussions, however you can sign up for an account and reply to the above topic or create new topics in the Site Feedback category if you have any comments on the migration or Discourse in general.
If you have made posts on the existing mailing lists, please read the Existing Posts and Profile sections of the topic linked above before signing up.
Shortly before starting the final steps of the migration, which we expect to be early afternoon on Tuesday UK time, we will send another notice to say this is happening. After this second notice we will close the existing FreewayTalk and Groups io lists, bring Discourse up to date with the latest posts and then open the imported categories to posting.
All of our links to the mailing lists, including those accessed via the Help menu in our apps, will be updated on our website to point at Discourse.

Re: Migrating to Discourse
Simon Manning
Hi All,
We will be starting the migration to Discourse soon. First we will be suspending access to Discourse while we run a task that will deal with some posts having their content trimmed, followed by a second task that will ensure this additional content does not expose email addresses in the posts.
These tasks will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete, at which point we will lock FreewayTalk and Groups io from receiving any further posts.
After this we will import the latest posts into Discourse, run a final task to ensure those new posts do not expose email addresses and finally reopen access to Discourse. This shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes, likely less.
